Initial Assessment

During your initial consultation great attention will paid to collecting a wide range of information, including your full medical history, previous training experience and your specific needs and goals. From this I can build a profile about you so we can get to know what makes you tick. In my experience, the better the understanding between you and your trainer, the more success you as a client will achieve. During this initial assessment I will begin to understand how to keep you focused and motivated, so you get the results you are aiming for.

If you have previously been unsuccessful when trying to improve your fitness or when trying to achieve a change to your body, I will help you to understand the reasons why this may not have worked for you. By leading you through a thorough fitness and lifestyle assessment we can both know where you are starting from and enable close monitoring of your progress to take place.

The initial fitness assessment may include any or all of the following:

  • Resting Heart Rate
  • Blood Pressure
  • Body Measurements
  • Flexibility and Mobility
  • Aerobic Fitness Tests
  • Muscular Strength and Endurance
  • Postural Assessment
  • Body Weight

As your trainer, I will help you to identify and overcome obstacles that may currently prevent you from fitting exercise into your everyday life. Training will be designed to fit around work or family commitments as wellas helping you find ways to boost your daily activity levels.  Fitting in a small amount of the correct type of exercise each day is far better than no exercise at all.

You may want to walk along the South West Coast path, play with your children or grandchildren, or compete in an event. It may be your first “Race for Life” or you may be competing to win a major race.

My aim to help you achieve a better lifestyle overall and not just a quick fix.

When it comes to nutrition, we are keen on keeping things simple. If we all had variety and moderation in our diet we would keep our bodies feeling and looking at their best.

Depending on your goals, your Personal Trainer may get you to record a food diary for analysis. Your Trainer can give you a nutrition plan which will be tailored for you and your dietary requirements; taking into account any goals you have for changing your body size or shape.

You may want to gain muscle, lose body fat or fuel your body optimally for a specific sport or event. Over time we will help you put changes in place to ensure you are getting the correct mix of Protein, Carbohydrate, Fats, Vitamins and Minerals as well as the correct amount of calories, whatever your goals may be.
